Ecology CityLab launches

The ACC is happy to announce the launch of a new CityLab on Urban Ecology with the first in a series of seminars to be held February 25, 2010 at 3pm. The Ecology Citylab seeks to bring together researchers and practitioners from different disciplinary areas to share knowledge, pose questions, network and identify opportunities for collaboration around the thematic area of urban ecology. The first lab will will be lead by Dr Justin O'Riain of UCT's Zoology Department who will present on his baboon research with a particular focus on the challenges of managing baboons in the urban context. The Ecology Citylab is coordinated by Pippin Anderson, an ecologist based in the Department of Environmental and Geographical Science. Her research focuses on plant ecology in peopled landscapes, land degradation, plant functional types, ecosystem services, restoration, and conservation planning and monitoring.
