Anton is an economist with Masters degrees in Development Economics and Environmental Change and Management respectively. His undergraduate was a BSc in Horticulture and Agricultural Economics. His initial work focused on the development of South Africa's agrarian reform programme and he subsequently implemented a number of land reform projects between 1998 and 2001. His more recent work has focused on the interactions between environmental degradation and human poverty, and in this context he has consulted on South Africa's emerging green economy, climate change adaptation, bioenergy, sustainable trade and integrated water resource management. He is also a contributor to South Africa's Local Economic Development programme and policy. In 2010 he joined ACC to head their Climate Change City Lab. The lab aims to create an interdisciplinary platform that will embed climate knowledge in municipal development. Anton continues to be a research associate of the Stockholm Environment Institute and is a founding member of PACE, a not-for profit organization developing poverty alleviating carbon trading projects in southern Africa. He recently began a PhD exploring climate change risk and the formal and informal approaches to managing it.
