Pippin Anderson is an ecologist based in the Department of Environmental and Geographical Science. Her research focuses on plant ecology in peopled landscapes, land degradation, plant functional types, ecosystem services, restoration, and conservation planning and monitoring.
Anderson's previous research has largely been based in the arid zone of South Africa. In her current capacity as a researcher for the African Centre for Cities, with the responsibility of running the Urban Ecology Citylab, the geographical focus of her work has shifted. Her current research is on the ecology of the Fynbos Biome, as experienced in the urban context. She also has an interest in academic writing and communication in the sciences.
