The vegetation in and around the City of Cape Town is both fire-prone and fire-adapted, and the use of fire forms an integral part of the management of this conservation-worthy vegetation. In a city of 3 million people the management of this important ecological process is challenging. This presentation will examine the case of fire management in the Table Mountain National Park, the extensive boundaries of which are adjacent to several densely populated areas.
