World Urban Forum Dialogues

ACC's Edgar Pieterse co-moderated with ACC Associate Barbara Lipietz one of six e-dialogues held between November & December 2009 in preparation for UN-Habitat's World Urban Forum. Focussing on 'Governance and Participation', the debate's objectives were to a) identify the fundamental elements of the participative city and participatory governance; and b) to evaluate the role of participatory governance in helping to forge inclusive and equitable urban development outcomes, in line with WUF 5's overriding framework of The Right to the City– Bridging the urban divide. The dialogue produced a fascinating array of perspectives and exchanges, often of a highly reflexive nature. It ran for three weeks and attracted about 202 postings from 28 countries and many more viewers.
